How to determine what size fan you will need: you need a fan that will replace the volume (cubic feet) of the grow room air in about 5 to 8 minutes or less. The air that is pulled out is immediately replaced by fresh air which is drawn from around the doors or windows. You can also cut vent slits in the door too. If a grow room is sealed tightly then an intake fan will probably be necessary to bring in fresh air.
To calculate the room size multiply width by length by height, this will give you the total cubic footage of your room for example 10 by 10 by 8 = 800 cubic feet. Remember that you want your fan to exchange the air within 5 minutes (divide your cubic feet by 5) so for a room that is 800 cubic feet a fan that is capable of moving 160 cfm is needed. Remember that the more ducting you use, the lower the cfm the fan will produce.
Dayton Squirrel Cage FansYou can draw air from multiple locations by placing the blower inside a box. Cut a hole in the box the same dimensions as the output flange and mount. Now cut holes and install the FA 139 duct adapters around the box. Air will be drawn into these adapters when a vacuum is formed inside the box. Connect flexible ducting to the adapters to draw the air your desired location.
You can also reduce the CFM of the blower by partially blocking the intake, but DO NOT block the blower's output. That will burn the blower out.

The easiest way to quiet a blower is not to mount it to a solid surface or structure like a wall. The vibration makes noise and the solid surface amplifies it like a speaker.
